How we treat people is reflective of our intelligence. Fowler is a cretin.

Stephen Fowler is the WORST participant in the history of "Wife Swap" and he's a despicable and contemptible representative of England.

Maybe he has met one or two mid-westerners yet he judges all as the same. Not all British people are like Fowler. Thank goodness!

It's shameful that he has trained his children to behave the way he does.

Let's hope he is directed to read the comments posted on the Web. Maybe he'll learn how to behave in our Country and not be so foul.

Oh, and we could be lazy. When we had brambles, we went to the sale yard and bought goats to clear them; then we either resold them or ate them. The lawn mower was a Shetland pony gotten at the same sale yard who did double duty clearing out all the poison oak plants - equines consider poison oak a fabulous delicacy and aren't bothered by it at all. The pony also served as a marvelous distraction for us kids as we rode it or hitched it up and drove down the irrigation ditch roads, a dangerous practice that as an adult makes me shudder because one spook and we'd have all drowned together. On one memorable occasion my grandmother borrowed a hog to till her garden for planting when my grandfather said he was too old to do it anymore. It did an admirable job as it rooted up missed potatoes, carrots, and beets, and tore the ground up looking for grubs. We kids were disappointed when my uncle took over the task the next year.

Pretty low carbon emissions lifestyle compared to suburban lawn mowers in my opinion.

Sorry. I typed that Mr. Fowler wasn't much wanted in the RED STATES when I meant that he was also not much wanted in the BLUE STATES.

As a conservative (NOT a NEOCON, nor a Christer) now living in California, I was involved in trying to live a low consumption lifestyle long before I even considered moving to the state wherein is Babylon by the Bay. In those days we called it "being thrifty" and the people I knew had vegetable gardens, hunted or raised a lot of their own food, composted, collected cans for recycling (in those days you sold the tin cans to scrap metal dealers and took the beverage cans back to the store for the deposits.) We maintained our vehicles and drove them until the wheels fell off, thereby avoiding both the environmental cost of manufacturing a new vehicle and the expense of purchasing another car. We "recycled" clothing among cousins and local kids as we grew out of our own and into those of someone who had grown even bigger; the only things not passed down were underwear, socks, and shoes. We did the same with everything from cribs and rocking horses to furniture, appliances, and even extra canning jars and freezing containers. We had one car that made it around about five or six relatives on both sides of the family; it was a Ford Ranchero, a Falcon pickup for those who are curious, and it was still running with something like 300K miles on it when I last saw it. It went from college student to college student and finally onto my uncle who used it for his once or twice a month 500 mile round trip commute; after that I lost track of it.

Even my academic town dwelling father and mother participated in these festivities; I remember how delighted I was with a hand me down from one of my mother's friend's daughters - a lovely, classic, beautiful little gray suit that I enjoyed mightily in about fifth or sixth grade. My dad was known to hit the woods for hunting season and I was no stranger to the technique of plucking chickens and freezing them.

He chose to do all the stupid things he did. He's not a victim! Someone said, "Why would someone so rich go on TV for such a small sum of money?" Two guesses: #1 They are in debt because of their outlandish lifestyle. #2 She thought she'd be seen as a miracle worker on TV and boost her weight loss business. Sorry he completely screwed it up, Renee. The Fowler businesses are toast.

If the FoUlers were so rich and so educated, WHY Oh WHY would they even consider going on such a show, and subjecting not only themselves but also their two pathetic and robotic children through something like this? WHAT was it that they were trying to GAIN? Because people like that only do something for gainful purposes.

I am British and I have never seen anyone trying so hard to be something that he is NOT and that is UPPERCLASS. His accent gives him away as a wannabe. He may have gone to Cambridge but so do many many others. I went to Oxford, my friend went to Cambridge, but we would NEVER put down anyone for their lack of education or anything else.

Treat people that way you would like to be treated. It seems the FoUlers with all their cerebral aptitude missed out on that piece of valuable information.

This man appears to be very conscious of his working class background and is trying very hard to prove otherwise, he has no self worth, because people who are truly educated and wealthy normally don't do around bragging about it.

His actions are bigger than the red states. He refused to do the Anthem, he called a woman dumb and fat, insulted the military. This is not a left coast issue only. Many normal people are trying to get cleaner on eco issues, he insulted multitudes of people. Far more than most any green person would ever wish to.

He is vile.

It also seems that he resigned from the board at PacificEnvironment.org because the environmentalists desperately wanted him gone; it seems they felt that he made it seem that environmentalists are more concerned about the welfare of earthworms and brine shrimp than that of human beings. Not to mention that organization prides itself on working with communities and this guy obviously couldn't work with any community not composed of fellow Cambridge educated wealthy elites - a demographic not commonly found among timber cutters, fishermen, and other groups the organization involves in its work.

I don't think Mr. Fowler is very popular in the Red States, either. It seems that a lot of West Coast environmentalists think that he made a mockery of everything they have worked for with his behavior on the show, and that he resembled a very unfortunate stereotype.

So far in the Bay Area, liberals, environmentalists, MDs, PhDs, academics, lawyers and all sorts of other people are howling for this guy to sit down, apologize, and shut up.

I would like to follow up to the message you sent in which you raised concerns about Stephen Fowler's behavior on the show "Wife Swap."

Stephen Fowler has resigned from Pacific Environment's Board of Directors and is no longer associated with the organization in any way. Please note that he was never an employee of the organization; rather, he was a volunteer.

We would like to reiterate that Pacific Environment was in no way involved in the taping of the show. Pacific Environment does not condone Mr. Fowler’s behavior on the show, and the behavior represented on the show absolutely does not reflect the values and ideals of Pacific Environment.

Pacific Environment works to protect the living environment of the Pacific Rim. We support local communities to have a larger voice on environmental issues. We partner with fishermen, indigenous communities, scientists, housewives, students, retired citizens, environmentalists, and others who are striving against great odds to protect their communities. We hope that you will learn about Pacific Environment and judge our work based on our long history of successfully supporting environmental heroes around the Pacific Rim.

Thank you again for your message and raising these concerns.

Sincerely,
David Gordonwww.pacificenvironment.org

He needs lots of prayer. His face looked so tormented. Very scary looking. I sort of think he was sorry he had signed up for the show. Why would a rich man need that paltry sum of money? hmmm... Motive? Why? Doesn't make much sense.

He needs major help. Poor little kids too. The wife made her own bed so let her figure it out. But those children should not suffer for it.
