Hawaii Update

So, I’ve been painting and planting and other various handy things. Since there is no IKEA here, I have to make all of our furniture myself! One big plus to living here is all the local produce to eat. We have avocados, oranges, bananas, mangos, papayas, lettuce, carrots, tomatos, and COFFEE (!) all within 20 minutes of our house, yay!

It doesn’t multitask (yawn), there’s no camera (yet) and it doesn’t render flash animation, but it fills a niche that most people seem to be overlooking. The iPad is for the bifocal set. It’s a big iPod Touch with big buttons and the ability to have big text.

It will have a camera at some point. It might even get blessed with a front facing and a rear facing camera at the same time. Apple might even surprise everyone and sneak a camera into the first model that is still 2 months away.

I don’t need flash support. Lots of people don’t need flash support. The loss of the moving advertising and flashy websites won’t be mourned very loudly. I surf the web for information that helps me learn something or make money. I know that there are a bunch of neat games to play on the web that are flash based, but I don’t care. I don’t have time for it.

Pick up your iPhone and feel how thin and solid it is. Move some things around the screen and open an app or two. It’s a great little chunk of technology and the iPad is more of the same. When you pick one up in the Apple Store this summer, you’ll want one, even if it isn’t perfect.

So, I’m in the middle of populating my amazon.com storefront, and I decided to simultaneously revamp all my mosaic tile websites. Of course that means that the first one I did was bead barrel, because I’m all scatterbrained like that.

NaNoWriMo

OK kids, I’m going to fire up the typing skills again this year and actually finish NaNoWriMo. Look for daily updates and word totals in this space. I might actually even post a few photos, we’ll see. I’ve been busy trying to make a new web business since I’m out of the mosaic game. Boo Hoo.

One part of the new business plan is to get my adsense revenue to increase a bit. I’ve been running at $300 per month for the last 4 months and I’m going to put some more web sites into the mix and try to get to $400 per month by the end of December. Updates as necessary. Google sent out a strange email this morning about getting adsense to make more money for everyone. I think people will just become jaded or numb to adsense in the current form on websites that they frequent. My main thrust is going to be to make websites that get serendipitous traffic so that the viewers won’t be looking at just one part of the screen.

I know that when I go to macrumors.com or gizmodo.com, I don’t even see the ads. My brain is trained to look in the content area and ignore the parts where superfluous info and advertising exists. We’ll see how my efforts go.

Some web happenings

So, I’ve been trying to intensify my efforts in actually populating some domains I have since I plugged the plug on Mosaic Tile Arts. The web sites that I’ve done the most work on so far are:

Pacific Stickers, which is a cubecart installation that I kludged fatfreecart into since I thought the checkout process of cubecart was just so klunky.

I Love My Sticker, which is a e-commerce leaning wordpress setup, with a very simple theme and also fatfreecart running as the payment mechanism.

Olde John McCain, is a blogger set up where we can just put up silly shit about the old fart running for president. I already voted for Obama (hurray for mail in voting), so I get to totally ignore all the bullshit that they will throw at us for the next 3 weeks.

That’s about it. I need to set up a few more sticker websites, but I think I’ll set up the next couple with mal’s cart for the payment setup instead of fatfreecart. I do love the thickbox implementation and I’ve thought about buying the Market 3 theme for WP that includes a jquery cart like fatfreecart.

Sometimes things just get neglected. Like flossing. Who likes to floss? For some reason, changing things around on this site has started to feel like flossing. I know I should do it, but it just gets put off. So, here is a new goody and I promise to come back sooner.
